FIVE people were taken to hospital after a three-car collision in the south of the city.

The incident happened just after 6pm yesterday at the junction of Charterhall Road and Oswald Road.

Fire crews from Liberton and McDonald Road were on the scene, with a heavy rescue trailer also provided from Newcraighall.

A 79-year-old man had to be cut free from one of the vehicles before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, along with four other people. Some of those involved are believed to be members of the same family.

All five of those taken to hospital are understood to have suffered only minor injuries in what was described by a the fire service as a “low-speed bump”.
