For all the nationalist backtracking, no-one can deny that in its election manifesto (on page 11) the SNP stated that it would argue for full fiscal responsibility/autonomy (FFR/A). This was backed up by subsequent SNP statements and debates during the election.
Today’s second reading debate of the Scotland Bill is the ideal opportunity for the SNP to fulfil that promise and submit an amendment for FFR/A to be implemented. There will be no other realistic opportunity to do this once the bill has been passed. Not to do so now would represent a massive deceit of the electorate.
