I have just read the obituary (17 April) of the late Rev Louise Duncan. It was good to read of her life and inspiring ministry, and of the appreciation and high regard in which she is held by parishioners and colleagues.
However, as I read, I was increasingly irritated, and even disturbed, by finding that the late Rev Louise Duncan was referred to throughout the piece by her surname alone.
The name by which she was, and is, known, is Louise, or Mrs Duncan. It may be The Scotsman house style, but I find it disrespectfully inappropriate, especially in the case of an obituary.
I feel so strongly about this that I have taken the time to send this message, and I hope this matter of style will receive serious consideration by the editorial team.
