Fireraiser was all mouth and no trousers

A BUNGLING fireraiser challenged a man to fight then set himself ablaze when he tried to torch a house.

The High Court in Glasgow yesterday heard that 37-year-old Gary Reilly fled the scene with his trousers on fire.

Yesterday, Reilly, of Riddrie, Glasgow, admitted throwing petrol on the door and common close of 21 Banton Place, Glasgow, and willfully setting fire to it on 3 November, 2007.

Iain McSporran, prosecuting, told the court there was a dispute between the accused and William McLaughlin and Angela Kelly, who lived there. The court heard that Reilly went to Mr McLaughlin's door and challenged him to a fight.

After Mr McLaughlin went back inside, Reilly ignited the petrol.

Temporary judge John Morris, QC, deferred sentence on Reilly.
