A fire started in a cell at Edinburgh prison

Fire crews were called out last night to Edinburgh Prison after a fire broke out in a cell.

The blaze broke out at around 9.45pm in Glenesk House.

Prison staff managed to extinguish the blaze before firefighters arrived.

A 46-year-old man was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Firemen also attended a fire started by a pan of food at Murdoch Terrace in the city’s Viewforth last night.

A 54-year-old woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
