Festival for South African freedom
A CULTURAL event to celebrate 10 years since the end of apartheid in South Africa opened in Edinburgh yesterday.
Leading South African jazz musicians Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu topped the bill for the free weekend-long event in Princes Street Gardens.
‘South Africa in the Gardens’ included music, dance, arts and crafts and was taking place as part of the Edinburgh Festival.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the end of apartheid in South Africa and the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as president following the first democratic and non-racial election. The event ends today at 10pm.
