Fears rise Lockerbie bomber might be returned to Libya
FEARS were raised yesterday that the Scottish Government might be preparing to allow the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, to return to Libya.
Alex Salmond was pressed on the issue during First Minister's Questions by Annabel Goldie, the Conservative leader, who said there was "deep unease" on the issue.
It followed revelations that the Scottish Government had held secret talks with Libya about sending Megrahi home.
However, Mr Salmond said he could not comment on an issue that might come before him for a ministerial decision and prejudice his or his government's position.
A Tory spokesman said: "Ms Goldie asked a general question and Mr Salmond's answer made it clear that he has left the door open to transferring serving prisoners abroad."
