FBI in town to boost the battle against e-crime
FBI chiefs are descending on the Lothians for an international conference to tackle e-crime.
Almost 30 internationally renowned speakers, including senior figures from the FBI, global finance and technology sectors, are meeting today at Hopetoun House in West Lothian at the first-ever International Conference on Cyber Security and Electronic Evidence in Business.
The conference organiser, the CTOSE Foundation, with backing from the European Commission, aims to highlight the threats arising from high-tech crime and the ways to understand and respond to these threats.
More than one million people in the UK work in information and communication technologies (ICT) in more than 130,000 companies. Two-thirds of UK companies experienced at least one security breach over the last year.
• A global alliance is needed to fight the growing tide of spam e-mails, the Office of Fair Trading said today.
A conference being hosted by the OFT and US Federal Trade Commission will discuss the problem of unsolicited e-mail.
