Father's cancer battle inspires city fundraiser

A FUNDRAISER whose father died after losing his battle against breast cancer is hosting an event to raise more money for charity.

Pamela Gulland's father Walter Duff died two years ago after undergoing numerous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, a full mastectomy and the removal of 40 lymph nodes.

Mrs Gulland, who has been fundraising for ten years, is keen to raise awareness of the fact that men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Her Breakthrough Breast Cancer Pink Party event ties in with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Mrs Gulland, from Corstorphine, works in the cardiology unit at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. As well as her colleagues, her daughter Caitlin has also been helping to raise funds.

The 12-year-old raised 1000 at her school and the mother and daughter team have raised more than 2400 this year.

Mr Duff, also from Corstorphine, was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2004 after noticing a lump in the right side of his chest.
