Fast-track plan to help fill North Sea jobs

A TRAINING course aimed at providing skilled workers with a fast track access to potentially lucrative jobs in the North Sea oil and gas industry was officially launched yesterday.

The 12-week course at Forth Valley College in Falkirk has been designed as a new route for trained technicians to transfer into jobs both onshore and offshore where there is a growing demand for their skills.

The course has been developed by OPITO, the Oil and Gas Academy, and is being funded by Skills Development Scotland, the Scottish Funding Council and Job Centre Plus.

OPITO chairman Mike Horgan said the course had been developed to help meet the industry's need for a reliable stream of competent technicians.
