Farewell to Alex 'the Hurricane' Higgins
THE funeral of former snooker world champion Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins will take place in Belfast on Monday.
Arrangements are being made for Canon Houston McKelvey to conduct a service at St Anne's Church of Ireland Cathedral in Donegall Street.
Higgins, 61, was found in bed at his flat in the Sandy Row area late last Saturday afternoon. It is believed he had been dead for a number of days.
A post-mortem examination was carried out, but it is not yet known if an inquest into his death will be held.
Higgins, who won world titles in 1972 and 1982, had been in declining health for years battling cancer. He lived alone.
