Famine song fan is banned
A RANGERS fan has been given two years probation and a football banning order for singing the "Famine Song".
William Walls, 20, was found guilty of breach of the peace, aggravated by religious and racial prejudice, at Kilmarnock District Court.
Stewards working for Rangers saw Walls singing the song and other offensive chants in November, when the Glasgow team beat Kilmarnock 4-0 at the town's Rugby Park.
Rangers have asked fans not to sing the song, which refers to events that killed an estimated one million people in Ireland in the 1840s.
Speaking after sentence, Les Brown, the procurator-fiscal, said: "The Crown Office and Procurator-Fiscal Service take all instances of racism and bigotry very seriously. We will prosecute in court all offences which are aggravated by racial or religious prejudice."
Rangers also banned Walls, of Cambuskenneth Place, Glasgow, from Ibrox for life.
