Families to help shape new Sick Kids
FAMILIES with very ill children will play a key role in shaping the new Sick Kids hospital, health chiefs have said.
The Family Council, a group of parents whose children are full-time patients, have been consulted about the new facility at Little France due to open in 2012.
Senior NHS Lothian figures said their needs were different to parents of patients who used the hospital less regularly, and as a result were involved in the design brief and will continue to be consulted throughout the process.
It is understood not everything the group of parents wanted to be included will be, but parents and the health board are believed to be happy at compromises so far.
It was announced last year the much loved Sick Kids Hospital would move out of its Sciennes home to a purpose-built, publicly-funded facility beside the ERI.
The Sick Kids Friends Foundation recently announced it was launching a 15 million fundraising campaign to provide the new hospital with additional equipment and items.
