Fall in number of C.diff cases

RATES of superbug C.diff are continuing to drop in the Lothians, latest figures have shown.

Statistics from the end of 2008 show the number of instances of the potentially fatal disease down by almost a third.

Health bosses said the fall was thanks to new prescribing methods, fresh cleaning methods and better training of staff.

Public health and health policy director Dr Alison McCallum said: "We have introduced a package of measures which are now showing their effectiveness."
