I REFER to previous correspondence regarding Edinburgh’s new trams. One or two of your readers have made reference to Princes Street and how it has been disfigured by tram street “furniture”. I suggest that our principal street in Edinburgh was ruined long ago, when many of the original shops and hotels were torn down and replaced by concrete edifices. It has been further spoiled by the noisy music and garish facades of various shops selling cheap trophies for tourists.
There was a time when Princes Street was considered one of the architectural glories of Europe. Only George Street is left to remind us of what we have lost.
