Extreme cold claims lives of wild boars

SUB-ZERO weather is thought to have led to the deaths of two of the six wild boars introduced on to a Highland estate as part of a project to restore ancient Caledonian forest.

One animal aged nine months died on charity Trees for Life's Dundreggan Estate in Glen Moriston, Inverness-shire, on Saturday and another was put down yesterday after treatment with antibiotics failed to save it.
