Examiner sues university for injuries after tripping over

AN EXAM overseer is suing a university for more than £30,000 after she tripped on a wastepaper bin as she left a room carrying students' test papers.

Janice Burgess, 62, said she suffered a broken arm and injuries to her neck and knee in the fall.

Mrs Burgess told a court she discovered the bin was completely flat after the incident and said: "It was like a steamroller had gone over it."

She said she believed the pain from her shoulder had caused her to pass outand her knee was badly bruised and swollen, adding: "It had obviously taken the brunt of the wastepaper bin and floor and my shoulder took the wall."

Mrs Burgess, of Greenbank, in Edinburgh, was working as an invigilator with Napier University when she was injured on 16 August, 2006.

Mrs Burgess, who also invigilates on exams at George Heriot's School, is now suing the higher education institution at the Court of Session.
