THE former Hibs assistant manager Brian Rice says he is making progress in his battle to raise £65,000 he needs to get out of Qatar.
He admitted last week he owes the money in gambling debts and will not be allowed to leave the country until he pays them off.
Friends and family had managed to raise £40,000 towards the cash needed by the 49-year-old.
Since his plight became known a further £10,000 has been raised by further donations.
Rice said: “ The response since the story has been incredible and I want to thank everyone who has been in contact. He added: “I am getting there”.
The father of two admitted that he had blown most of the money on online roulette after borrowing it from a bank to set himself in his new life up as a coach.
The former Hibs assistant lost his job after only a few months of starting his new life in Qatar.
