Ewing backs ban on Mosquito devices

AN ELECTRICAL device aimed at combating antisocial behaviour, which emits a high-pitched noise audible only to those under the age of 25, could be banned.

Community safety minister Fergus Ewing said he intended to meet Home Secretary Theresa May to discuss the possibility of outlawing the Mosquito devices, as part of a wider conversation on antisocial behaviour.

The Mosquito is the subject of a petition being considered at Holyrood, and Mr Ewing was called before the public petitions committee to outline his views.

He said: "The Scottish Government does not support the use of these devices, and has never supported the use of these devices. There is a case for a ban."

Calls for a ban were brought before the committee by Scottish Youth Parliament member Andrew Deans.
