Eurostar train stranded in Channel Tunnel

A Eurostar train was delayed in the Channel Tunnel today, just weeks after thousands of passengers were stranded after a number of trains broke down inside the cross-country link.

Eurostar said a Brussels to London service was inside the tunnel an hour after it was due to arrive at St Pancras, at 0856.

Heavy snow started falling in Kent as the delay was reported, although the company said it hoped to have the train moving shortly.

Services were suspended before Christmas after passengers were stranded on broken-down trains.

They were offered compensation of 150 each, totalling an estimated 300,000, plus a free return ticket in the next 12 months, which could amount to 150,000.

Analysts have said the disruption caused by the breakdowns will cost Eurostar millions of pounds.
