COLIN and Christine Weir, the Scottish couple who won the largest ever UK lottery jackpot, have reportedly purchased a £3.5 million mansion in Troon.
The sale is thought to be among the largest residential transactions recorded in Scotland, with the couple buying the turn-of-the-century Frognal estate from hospitality magnate Bill Costley.
The Weirs purchased the four bedroom house and 32-acre estate, which features a 36,000 piece chandelier and a market garden, as well as almost all of its contents.
Costley told the Ayrshire Post: “They were in about 10 minutes and bought all the contents.
“I say it myself, but it is a very special house in a unique location and I am sure the Weirs will be very happy in it.”
The Weirs won £161 million in the Euromillions pan-European lottery in 2011. They have since set up a charitable fund with a £5m endowment, as well as providing Partick Thistle with £750,000 to set up a youth academy. The couple also donate to the Scottish National Party.
