A LANCASHIRE-BASED construction and engineering business has embarked on a Scottish expansion drive that kicks off with the opening of an office in Coatbridge, creating nine jobs.
Eric Wright Water underwent a name change from Site Electrical at the start of the year as part of a “strategic” move to build on its growth in the water sector, and the new office adds to its existing operation in Dumfries.
Former Scottish Water framework manager Charlie Garvie has been appointed to the new post of business manager and has been joined by operations manager Sinclair Kerlin, along with a civil engineer, three electricians and three mechanical fitters.
The Eric Wright group, which was founded in 1923 and has its headquarters near Preston, said it would continue to recruit across a number of electrical and mechanical areas.
The firm employs more than 500 people and is responsible for building, developing and maintaining commercial properties, health centres, schools, utilities infrastructure, highways, bridges, housing and historic buildings across the UK.
Garvie, whose remit will be to build on the company’s relationship with Scottish Water as it rolls out its infrastructure maintenance and investment programme, said: “Eric Wright Water already has a proven track record with Scottish Water and our investment in a new office in Coatbridge means that we now have the central base needed to respond quickly to the water company’s requirements across its vast network.
“Many of those sites are remote and provide supply for a large area.”
He added: “My previous experience means that I can bring contractor sector best practice to Eric Wright Water alongside a clear understanding of what’s expected of us from the client’s perspective.”
