Two Scots proposals up for carbon capture prize
TWO Scottish proposals are shortlisted in a £1 billion carbon capture and storage competition run by the UK government, it was announced yesterday.
The Captain Clean Energy Project, at Grangemouth, would involve storing carbon offshore in depleted gas fields and is led by a group including Siemens and the National Grid. The other Scottish proposal on the shortlist of four is for a carbon capture scheme at a gas power station at Peterhead, led by Shell and energy giant SSE.
All four bidders will now undergo “intensive commercial negotiations” with the UK government, which will decide which to support to help cut carbon emissions and create jobs.
