Scotland’s weather: Significant snowfall predicted as winter temperatures set to plummet
Snow on Cairn Gorm. Winter is expected to be particularly cold this year
SCOTLAND is bracing itself for transport disruption as a bitter winter is expected, with temperatures as low as -18C predicted.
Forecasters have predicted a colder than average period from the middle of November, which will last until late January, with significant snowfall forecasted across Scotland.
The warning came as half-term visitors to the Cairngorm ski resort were greeted with snow that had fallen during the night in the Highlands.
However, a late Indian summer is predicted to start next week with Hurricane Rafael set to push warm air across the Atlantic towards Britain. Temperatures are expected to top a balmy 21C.
