First Minister hails energy plant deal

THE First Minister has welcomed a multi-million-pound deal to buy a Scottish fabrication facility in a move that saves 60 jobs and could create another 200.

Port Services Group (PSG), which has bases in Aberdeen, Invergordon and Scrabster, has acquired the six-acre industrial complex at the Cromarty Firth Service Base at Invergordon.

The former RBG facility takes up a large slice of the Invergordon base, which is at the centre of the new energy boom.

The company will operate the facility under the new name IFAB (Invergordon Fabrication), and will supply the oil, gas and renewables markets.

The base has six fabrication sheds and extensive areas for projects such as subsea structures, and marine and wind energy devices.

The deal follows an announcement last month by Inverness-based Global Energy Group that it had bought the North Sea fabrication yard at Nigg on the shores of the Cromarty Firth. The 238-acre site, renamed the Nigg Energy Park, will also serve the oil and gas and renewables sectors.

Alex Salmond congratulated PSG on its investment. He said: “Scotland’s offshore energy industry is world-leading and highly-skilled.”
