Edinburgh’s meter readings may be in overdrive thanks to a mushrooming of Christmas lights but electricity bills aside they do make the aerial view of the city a fantastic one.
The above image was taken by Katie Dudgeon who had boarded a night flight from London Gatwick to Aberdeen.
Katie, who was returning to Aberdeen after a girls’ weekend in London, said: “I love to see busy cities from above when I’m flying and take as many photos as I can.
“I suppose it was just instinct and a bit of luck that I happened to be sitting in the window seat.
“It was quite a clear night so I could easily see the outline of Princes Street and Murrayfield Stadium.
“The route goes all the way up the East coast. I could see Newcastle, Dundee and even my home town, North Berwick, from above.”
