NORTHERN rockhopper penguins at Edinburgh Zoo have been piling on the pounds ahead of their annual molt, during which time the penguins are at their heaviest.

But zookeepers are keen to ensure they remain at a healthy weight by getting the birds onto the scales. The birds are monitored by staff so that they don’t become lethargic and therefore less likely to breed during mating season.
