Dead osprey may have been killed by car
A YOUNG osprey has been killed on Lewis. It is thought the bird died after being hit by a car.
The bird of prey, named Moray, was only born in June – one of two surviving chicks from a nest near Forres, Moray.
He was named after the county by pupils at Logie Primary School who are studying wild birds this term.
He left the nest on 26 August and was tracked by satellite as he zigzagged north instead of heading for western Africa for the winter
But on Saturday his satellite tag indicated he had not moved position for some hours.
Roy Dennis of the Highland Wildlife Foundation discovered the dead bird lying in a ditch beside the road and believes a car had collided with him.
