Call to protect sea mammals
A CAMPAIGN has been launched calling for greater protection for whales and dolphins in Scottish seas.
The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) wants a planned network of marine conservation areas to include protection for the mammals.
Scotland has the greatest diversity of whales, dolphins and porpoises in northern Europe but there is currently only one protected area for one species in Scotland’s seas.
WDCS head of Scottish policy Sarah Dolman said: “Protection of areas used for important biological activities, such as feeding and calving, are urgently needed.”
