CHRISTMAS was a hoot for Blair Drummond Safari Park bird trainer Laura Downie this year.

Ant the burrowing owl has become a firm favourite at the park near Stirling, since his arrival earlier this year.

Now aged six months, he was hand reared by Laura from a week-old, and often accompanies her home.

Burrowing owls are native to North and South America and despite being able fliers they spend much of their time running around in search of insects and taking cover in underground burrows.
