Sir Paul gets back to keep his promise to Scotland
SIR Paul McCartney is to play Scotland for the first time in 20 years.
The former Beatle, who owns a farm on Kintyre, is to perform in Glasgow in the summer.
His show comes almost two decades to the day since he last played in Scotland. On 23 June, 1990, he performed at the SECC as part of Glasgow's celebrations as European City of Culture. Originally, that show was to have been staged at the adjacent Queen's Dock, but it was switched to the indoor venue.
Now Sir Paul is to play Hampden Park on 20 June. Details of the gig, which will be part of a UK tour, are expected to be announced this week.
The star had been due to play Celtic Park in 2003 as part of his Back In The World Tour but pulled out after losing his voice. In an interview then, he apologised to Scottish fans and said he would return "one day".
Sir Paul first asked promoters before Christmas to look at performing in Scotland as part of a "Union Jack" tour.
His photographer brother Mike has just produced a book of photographs of the North Highlands and said his family had been exploring their Scottish roots.
Sir Paul ended his European tour in London in December, where he performed Mull of Kintyre with a Highland pipe band.
