Shetty visit ruled out as Jade's health worsens

JADE Goody was too ill for a visit from her former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Shilpa Shetty, her publicist, Max Clifford said yesterday.

The reality TV star learned of her cancer while starring on India's version of Big Brother, which Shetty hosted. The pair first met on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, when Goody was involved in a race row over the treatment of the Indian contestant. They have since made their peace and Shetty was invited to Goody's wedding, but was unable to attend due to filming commitments.

It had been hoped that Shetty, 33, might be able to say farewell to Goody during a visit to Britain this week. But Mr Clifford said the Indian actress would not be paying a visit because Goody was too sick.

He said: "She is not well. Shilpa totally understands that."

The cancer-stricken star's condition deteriorated over the weekend. "She has put her house in order," Mr Clifford said. "Now we're waiting for the inevitable. It could be at any time."

Although she was under sedation and spent much of the weekend sleeping, Goody was visited by her children and was "briefly conscious" of their presence, according to Mr Clifford. She has also made arrangements for her funeral, which she hopes to be a "celebration" of her life.
