Radio 5 Live gets once-over
BBC Radio 5 Live should do more to cover “minority interest” sports, according to a review of the station.
The report, published by the BBC Trust, said its audience “greatly value” its sports coverage. Covering sport was an “explicit part” of the station’s service licence and “the majority of live coverage and discussion is focused on football”, it said.
The review, which included responses from thousands of licence fee payers, is part of the trust’s rolling programme of reviews of BBC services.
It stated: “We have asked BBC management to develop its provision of a range of sports, including those of minority interest. Other sports should receive more representation”.
