Family mourns as theatres dim the lights
AS THE family of Natasha Richardson mourned in New York yesterday, theatres in London's West End dimmed their lights to mark the death of the actress.
In a symbolic tribute to the stage and screen star, illuminations in the theatre district were lowered before curtain up.
The two-minute mark of respect started just before 7pm, and was echoed for the next hour across the West End's 52 major venues, due to the differing start times of shows. The Society of London Theatre said the tribute was intended not only for Richardson, but for the whole Redgrave family.
On Thursday, Richardson's husband, the Irish actor Liam Neeson, watched as Broadway turned down its lights.
Her mother, the Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave, her actress sister, Joely Richardson, and neice Daisy Bevan, attended a wake in New York yesterday.
