Ex-Roller on attack charge
FORMER Bay City Roller Pat McGlynn has been charged in connection with an alleged assault in a busy city street.
Mr McGlynn’s 43-year-old wife, former model Jane Andrews, has also been charged in connection with the same incident at Liberton Brae in the Southside of the city on Tuesday. The 46-year-old guitarist and his wife have been questioned by police and a report is being submitted to the procurator fiscal. As a result of the incident, a 31-year-old man - who has also been charged as a result of the disturbance - is being treated for facial burns in St John’s Hospital in Livingston.
Scalding tea is believed to have been thrown in his face.
A police spokesman said: "A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident in Liberton Brae at 11am on Tuesday, as has a 43-year-old woman. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
Formed in 1967 by Edinburgh brothers Alan and Derek Longmuir, The Bay City Rollers were later joined by Les McKeown, Stuart "Woody" Wood, Eric Faulkner and McGlynn.
Their hits included Summerlove Sensation, All of Me Loves All of You and Bye Bye Baby.
Mr McGlynn, the son of a scrap merchant from Niddrie, joined the band fresh from school in 1975 at the height of their success
After touring Australia, America, Japan, Thailand and Europe, the band returned to Edinburgh in 1977. Mr McGlynn left and they eventually disbanded in 1978 when manager Tam Paton relinquished control.
Several former members, including Mr McGlynn, reformed as the Rollers in 1979 and toured worldwide for the next eight years. Since then, Mr McGlynn has enjoyed huge solo success in Japan, notching up ten number one hits.
In September last year, Mr McGlynn, now a record producer and successful artist in the Far East, went to an Edinburgh Police Station to lodge an accusation of attempted rape against Mr Paton in 1976.
The allegations - denied by Mr Paton - are backed by the band’s former singer Mr McKeown. Police are still investigating the claim.
