Energy rebates plan boost

SCOTTISH householders will earn council tax rebates for making their homes more energy-efficient, under plans backed by a Holyrood committee yesterday.

Labour MSP Sarah Boyack secured the backing of the Scottish Parliament's transport, infrastructure and climate change committee for her plans to reward householders financially for cutting down on heat loss and greenhouse gas emissions .

Ms Boyack proposed an amendment to the Climate Change Bill which would give householders rebates of up to 250 for energy-efficiency improvements to their homes.

Under Ms Boyack's plan, where the cost of improvements is more than 250 but less than 1,000, a rebate of 100 will be granted, and if improvements cost more than 1,000, a rebate of 250 will be granted.
