End of winter doesn't mean end of colds
HEALTH chiefs have warned vulnerable people across the Lothians not to become complacent following the end of winter.
They said elderly people and at-risk groups should still be aware over Easter of coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms.
Parents too have been told to make sure medicine cabinets are stocked up given that GP surgeries will be closed for a few days over the traditional holiday period.
Those who take regular medication are being warned to make sure enough supplies are in place if pharmacies close on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
NHS Lothian's medical director Dr Charles Swainson said: "NHS Lothian is here to help and we do that in a number of ways – through our emergency services, our primary care and out-of-hours services, through pharmacists, and we also work with NHS 24.
"Sometimes people may not realise just how many ways they can access medical advice.
"If you are struggling with a cold, for example, pharmacists provide excellent care from locations which may be more convenient for you."
