Emergency call as phones fail
HIGHLAND police were forced to set up emergency response points yesterday following the partial failure of a local telephone network.
Services in Bettyhill, Strathnaver, Tongue and Talmine, on the north coast, were unexpectedly knocked out during the morning.
Northern Constabulary was required to run additional police patrols in the area, as well as establishing static response points for anyone requiring assistance in an emergency.
Police said that telephone services for the area were restored at about 1pm.
