Body found off Caithness is missing Australian tourist

A body found off the north coast of Scotland has been formally identified as that of Australian tourist Lynne Radke who vanished while on holiday in the Highlands.

The devastated family of Lynne Radke, 46, issued a statement through Police Scotland thanking those who assisted in searching for her.

Her sister Naomi said: “It is with great regret and sadness to confirm that Lynne Radke, our daughter, sister and aunt was found off the coast of northern Scotland.

“As a family we find comfort in her peace. We wish to thank you all for your thoughts at this difficult time.

“We are truly grateful to the officers at Wick Police Station that have handled this difficult situation with professionalism and genuine care.

“We also find comfort in the assistance of the local community who have helped us in our search.”

They added: “We maintained hope for a better outcome. Arrangements will be announced over the coming weeks.”

Lynne was reported missing on Wednesday, 16 September, following concern from staff at a local guest house in John O’Groats after she failed to return two days previously.

Following her disappearance an extensive investigation and search operation was launched, utilising local officers from across the Highlands and Islands, specialist resources including sniffer dogs, Coastguard volunteers and lifeboats.

A body was discovered on Friday and has now been confirmed as the tourist who originally came from Brisbane.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The cause of Lynne’s death does not appear to be suspicious at this time. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, as is procedure in these circumstances.”
