POLICE have named an elderly couple killed after they were hit by a car when they crossed a road in Largs at the weekend.

Bob Simpson, 87, died at the scene of the accident in the North Ayrshire town at around 9.15am on Saturday.

His 84-year-old wife Rose was airlifted to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow where she later died.

The couple, of Brisbane Road in Largs, were struck by a red Toyota which was travelling north in the town’s Greenock Road.

Their families have been told.

The 34-year-old female driver was not injured but was taken to Inverclyde Hospital, Greenock as a precaution.
