Eighth expenses file completed

SCOTLAND Yard yesterday passed a new file of evidence to prosecutors against another politician suspected of abusing expenses.

The file was the eighth to be completed and sent to prosecutors by detectives at the Metropolitan Police specialist crime wing.

Meanwhile, figures for the police pinvestigation into alleged expenses abuses by MPs and peers has already cost the taxpayer more than half a million pounds.

Scotland Yard said 13 of its officers had been working on cases involving parliamentary allowances since the scandal broke in May last year.
