Students hit heights at new college

STUDENTS gathered on Calton Hill to celebrate the opening of the new Edinburgh College.

The institution was created through a merger of Stevenson, Telford and Jewel & Esk colleges.

Education Secretary Mike Russell hosted a ceremony marking the opening at the Assembly Rooms in George Street last night.

Members of teachers’ union the Educational Institute of Scotland protested outside over cuts to higher education.
