Student paper's monopoly ends
THE 75-year monopoly of one of Scotland's oldest student newspapers is set to end in a row over the publication's independence.
A group of students at Aberdeen University yesterday announced plans to produce an on-line newspaper for undergraduates in direct opposition to the Gaudie, which was first published in 1934.
They say the Gaudie does not have editorial independence from the Students' Association, whose president, Robin Parker, is its editor in chief.
A group of undergraduates, led by Alexander Ryland, 19, are poised to launch their own on-line publication, Vox Pop, as an alternative to the Gaudie.
