Street party ticket price rises to £10
REVELLERS will have to fork out £10 for a ticket to the Capital's Hogmanay street party – the fourth price rise in six years.
Cut-price 5 tickets have been scrapped and people will now pay four times as much as they did when charges were first introduced in 2004. Tickets go on sale from 9am on Saturday.
The news comes as organisers announced pop band Madness will headline the celebrations.
Madness, who are looking forward to their first Edinburgh gig in more than 15 years, said: "2009 has been an incredible year for us, and how better to say goodbye to it than by welcoming 2010 at Edinburgh's Hogmanay. We've heard it is one of the world's best New Year bashes, so we are expecting mayhem. Edinburgh has laid down the gauntlet – we're there to take up the challenge."
The Concert in the Gardens, the street party and the Keilidh form part of four days of Hogmanay festivities, from Thursday, 29 December to New Year's Day.
The programme of events will also include a torchlight procession, candlelit concert and the premiere of Off Kilter – a new dance and music event at the Festival Theatre, which takes place from 29 December to 2 January.
Council festival and events champion Councillor Steve Cardownie said: "Edinburgh's Hogmanay is envied across the world, and this year, with Madness set to perform, there will be no better place to be to bring in the New Year."
