Special school back on track after £1.5m funds released
A NEW £12.6 million special school in East Renfrewshire that was delayed by funding problems caused by the recession is back on course after £1.5 million was released for the project.
Councillors were forced in February to put off work on the Isobel Mair School, but the Scottish Government has allowed the council to access capital cash originally earmarked for the following year, so the new school will be ready by summer 2011 rather than January 2012.
Isobel Mair School provides education for 130 pupils aged five to 18 with support needs from across East Renfrewshire.
Its current base at Clarkston is over capacity and some pupils are being taught temporarily at Williamwood High School, Busby, and at Carlibar Primary School in Barrhead, until the new building is ready.
Isobel Mair headteacher Mari Wallace said: "This is great news for our pupils, parents and staff."
