Snow closes schools in north east of Scotland

SIX schools across the North east of Scotland were closed today as heavy snow and blizzards swept the area.

In Aberdeenshire the primaries at Bracoden, Crathie, Lumsden and Strathdon were closed by the adverse conditions and a further 19 schools were affected by school transport problems.

Glenlivet Primary in Moray and Isla Primary in Angus were also closed because of the severe conditions on many rural roads. A school bus, due to take pupils to Webster’s High School in Kirriemuir, was unable to operate after becoming stuck in the snow

The A941 Dufftown to Rhynie road wad closed. The B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road reopened this morning after being cleared by snowplough teams but was said to be only passable with care, and the A93 Ballater to Glenshee road was also affected by high winds and drifting snow.
