Sir Jackie in pole position to aid dyslexia campaign
SCOTTISH racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart was today launching a free support package for dyslexic school children.
Every high school in the Lothians can get a copy of Dyslexia Scotland's set of 18 booklets and a CD, backed by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Sir Jackie, who was not diagnosed as dyslexic when he was at school, said: "I truly hope that all teachers will embrace this publication. If they can put into practice the guidance offered it will make a fundamental difference to the way dyslexic children are taught in school today. Young people in Scotland deserve this chance."
Dyslexia Scotland says figures show at least one in ten people in Scotland is dyslexic, and surveys found teachers want more support to deal with dyslexic pupils.
Moira Thomson, author of the new publication, added that many dyslexic youngsters are still treated as if they have behavioural problems.
