Scotland's most treasured places are in the frame
A MAJOR exhibition celebrating Scotland's "treasured places" was due to be launched today in the Capital.
The free exhibition has more than 180 drawings and photographs, many of which are on public display for the first time.
It celebrates buildings and sites from all over the nation and includes the ten finalists in the nationwide hunt for Scotland's most treasured place, which was launched in September 2007.
After 20,000 public votes were cast, the Lady Victoria Colliery in Midlothian was announced as the victor at the start of this year.
The Treasured Places: 100 Years of RCAHMS features work from the collections of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS), which this year celebrates its centenary.
Tom Devine, Professor of Scottish History & Paleography at Edinburgh University, said: "This is a must-see exhibition for all Scots and visitors to Scotland.
"Some of the most stunning visual images of the nation's past, carefully collected for 100 years by our premier public agency for recording buildings and monuments, will be on display.
"From castles to bungalows, cathedrals to cottages, the places of Scotland are here for all to see and enjoy."
The exhibition runs until January 18 at the City Art Centre, Market Street.
