School infants sent home because of swine flu

CHILDREN at a Scottish primary school were sent home today as a further 53 people across the country were infected with swine flu.

The primary two pupils will not return to St Helen's Primary School, in Condorrat, Cumbernauld, until after the summer holidays.

The Scottish Government said two of the children had tested positive for the influenza (H1N1) virus.

Of the new victims, 47 are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, two are in Lanarkshire, and Forth Valley, Highland, Lothian and Tayside NHS areas have one each.

One of the new cases is travel-related.

Four people with swine flu are being treated in hospital.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "We are doing everything we can to limit the spread of the outbreak and continue to fine-tune our preparations and procedures going forward, while continuing to work towards securing the necessary supplies of an H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available."
