Pupils take on green mantle for eco-day

NURSERY and primary school children will be dressing up in green and working in a wildlife garden as part of an eco-day.

Pupils from Edinburgh Academy's nursery and P1 to P6 classes will be taking part in the initiative on Wednesday, May 14.

There will also be science shows and the chance to work on eco-themed mosaics.

A representative from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds will speak to the children

Lesley Becher, head of early learning at the junior school, said: "Over the last two years we have been working hard to gain our Green Flag – a much sought-after eco-award. The children have been very much involved from the beginning, organising their own committee and fundraising.

"We have also had support from parents and staff, who have been involved in digging a site for our wildlife garden, as well as helping to promote our reduce, reuse and recycle themes.

"The eco-day will give the chance to bring all our hard work together and for the children to realise just how much they can do to protect our environment."
